Sometimes being a mother is not easy, it doesn’t mean that it is not possible. With the scientific advances in fertility, couples worrying about conceiving can rely on fertility treatments. The Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) are the two commonly used method of fertility treatments, which increase the chance of couples to be parents. GIFT – Gyno IVF Centre is one of the low-cost IVF centers in Kochi that provides the best infertility treatment in Kerala.
In the technique of IUI, the sperm is provided by either the partner or a third party donor whose sperm is being stored in a deep freeze sperm bank. Before insemination, the sperms are prepared in the laboratory. They are assessed for safety, quality, and quantity by a method known as Sperm Washing. The processed sperms are inserted directly into a woman’s uterus. The objective of IUI is to bring these sperms as near as possible to the eggs, thus improving the chances of conceiving.
The IUI is performed right before or right after a woman ovulates so an egg is available for fertilization. The woman is closely monitored for this. The procedure involves using a catheter to inject the sperm into the uterus.
Since the IUI procedure deposits higher concentration of good quality sperms close to where the egg is waiting, the chances of fertilization is more.
Who uses IUI?
The most common reason for IUI is a low sperm count or decreased sperm mobility. Other reasons like infertility and the desire to have a child without a male partner are the notable ones.
IUI Success Rate
The success rate of IUI is 10-20% per cycle, with multiple cycles the success rate move up to 80%. Although risk factors like Age cannot be avoided.
